TAR UMT announced the 2026 edition of its landmark running event TARCian Run, set to flag off on 15 November 2026 with an ambitious target of bringing 10,000 runners together.
Marking its 10th edition since its inception in 2015, this year’s run will be officially known as the Setiawangsa–Pantai Expressway (SPE) TARCian Run 2026, made possible thanks to title sponsor Lebuhraya DUKE Fasa 3 Sdn Bhd.
Participants in this year’s run will enjoy a seven-kilometre running route, that travels along the scenic SPE highway, around the vibrant TAR UMT Kuala Lumpur campus, and ends with a grand finish on Sky Field, the running track on the rooftop of TAR UMT Arena.
This year, SPE TARCian Run 2026 welcomes the participation of students, staff, and parents of students from Sekolah Menengah Jenis Kebangsaan (SMJK) Chong Hwa Kuala Lumpur and Chong Hwa Independent High School, and for the first time, members of Step8ight’s active community.
“Through this event, we hope to continue promoting an active and healthy lifestyle while strengthening relationships within the TARCian community and beyond. We invite all TARCians comprising students, staff, and alumni, as well as the members of the public, and local schools to join us for the SPE TARCian Run 2026 and celebrate the TARCian spirit together as we aim to reach our target of 10,000 runners,” said Prof Dato’ Indera Ir Dr Lee Sze Wei, President of TAR UMT, during the SPE TARCian Run 2026 press conference held at TAR UMT Arena in its Kuala Lumpur campus on 19 August 2026.
The press conference was also attended by Dato’ Chan Wah Kiang, Chairman of TAR UMT Alumni Council and Mr Chan Phei Yong, Founder of Step8ight and TAR UMT alumnus.
“Unlike any other running event, the SPE TARCian Run 2026 is also a chance for our alumni to come home, reconnect with their alma mater, and make new memories together with the TARCian community. It is our wish that the alumni will come forward, give back, and celebrate the TARCian spirit that brings us together across generations,” said Dato’ Chan in his speech.
Concurring with Dato’ Chan, Phei Yong shared: “As a proud TARCian, I am deeply honoured to be part of such a meaningful event. TAR UMT holds a special place in my heart - to come back and collaborate with my alma mater is a great and exciting moment for me as an alumnus of TAR UMT. I am confident that with everyone playing their part, the SPE TARCian Run 2026 will achieve its target of 10,000 participants.”
The SPE TARCian Run 2026 is organised by the TAR UMT Student Sports Committee (SSC) and supported by TAR UMT, TAR UMT Alumni Council, Sekolah Menengah Jenis Kebangsaan (SMJK) Chong Hwa Kuala Lumpur, Chong Hwa Independent High School, and Step8ight.
