TAR UMT's Master of Architecture Programme Earns Full LAM Accreditation

TAR UMT has achieved full accreditation from the Board of Architects Malaysia (Lembaga Arkitek Malaysia, LAM) for its Master of Architecture programme, affirming the programme’s alignment with the professional standards required for Part II architectural education in Malaysia.

The accreditation marks an important milestone for TAR UMT’s architecture education, strengthening the professional pathway for its graduates who aspire to become registered architects in Malaysia. With the recognised qualification, eligible graduates can apply for registration with LAM as Graduate Architects without having to sit for a separate LAM Part II Examination.

LAM’s full accreditation recognises TAR UMT's programme’s standards across five key areas: design; technology and environment; cultural context; communication; and management practice and law. These areas reflect the breadth of knowledge and competencies required to prepare architecture graduates for the demands of professional practice.

For TAR UMT, the recognition provides external validation of the programme’s curriculum, design studios, teaching team and academic delivery, demonstrating their alignment with the expectations of professional architectural education. The achievement also reflects the collective commitment of the University, its academic team, students and industry contributors to maintaining the quality and professional relevance of the programme.

The qualification also strengthens graduates’ professional profiles and employability by providing a recognised academic pathway towards becoming registered architects in Malaysia. Following the completion of the required professional experience and successful passing of the LAM Part III Professional Examination, graduates can progress towards registration as professional architects, in accordance with LAM’s requirements.

Beyond professional recognition, TAR UMT’s Master of Architecture programme seeks to develop graduates who are not only capable designers, but also critical thinkers, technologically informed problem-solvers and professionally prepared future architects. Through its educational approach, the programme aims to equip graduates to respond meaningfully to the evolving needs of cities, communities and the wider built environment. The accreditation also enhances the qualification’s relevance for graduates seeking opportunities in architectural practice and the broader built-environment industry, both locally and internationally, subject to the respective registration and professional requirements of each country.
